Sometimes this is what birth support looks like. I’m tired of this notion that doulas are only good if you have an Unmedicated birth, or a vaginal birth, or a home birth, or a birth center birth... having a doula isn’t about having a certain type of birth. It’s about having the support you need to make it through any type of birth.
If that means holding your leg while you push, I’ll do that.
If it means taking pictures of your hands off home waterbirth I’ll do that, and if it means suiting up at midnight to go back to the operating room with you after a long and discouraging labor, you had better believe I’m going to be there for that too.
And no matter what, I’m going to be telling you that you’re brave and strong and amazing. I’m going to celebrate the fact that you’re becoming a mom in your own unique way and I’m going to do everything in my power to help you see how incredible I believe you are.
Having a doula is about believing that you deserve informed support and having someone in your corner to encourage you, wipe your tears, pray for you and celebrate you at every point of this transformation that you’re walking through, regardless of the details.
